CLOSED – JEN Puteri Harbour, Johor Bahru (Hotel Review)

Just a little while ago, I watched a video on Tiktok about how Puteri Harbour is now a quiet and deserted place, post covid. I don’t know about him or her but Puteri Harbour is a heaven to me. A quiet one, that is.

Of course it’s quiet. The world is changing to a new normal, it takes time for everything to be bustling and busy. And you know what? I actually love the peace and calmness that Puteri Harbour has to offer, and that is why I chose to review this next hotel.

JEN Puteri Harbour is located.. umm.. well.. in Puteri Harbour! Which is a little on the west side of Johor Bahru. If you’re wondering which checkpoint (The JB CIQ or Tuas Checkpoint) is nearer to the hotel, it’s actually fairly located in the middle of both the entries of Johor Bahru from Singapore so the distance is roughly the same. It took me less than 30 minutes to reach the hotel from the Johor Bahru CIQ. It was a nice ride! You’ll see new estates and terraces in the making. It was empty, but still beautiful.

It’s my first time reviewing a property from the Shangri-La brand so I’m pretty excited! I must say, the expectations is a little through the roof so let’s go!

When I reached to the hotel lobby, it was instantly apparent that the theme of the hotel is the aquatic, oceanic and under-the-sea vibes. It’s interesting! The walls and ceilings has these curvy structures which resembles the corals I guess? Aquaman would love it here.

Since I checked in on a weekday, the check-in process was swimmingly seamless! There wasn’t any crowd at all.

I’m not sure if it’s the sea vibes but the corridor to the guest rooms really look like the ones on a cruise. I love it. It has got all the natural light coming in, it doesn’t feel gloomy and dark.

My room category is the King Deluxe room.

From the moment I walked in, it felt very bright and airy. I truly adore the interior design of the room itself, it feels very Andaz. From the layout of the room to the furnishing, it feels very fresh and new. It’s not the typical hotel room that you always see, this one is definitely more modern and inviting.

The wooden flooring is to die for! And the little fishes on the wall? So mesmerising, it actually made me hungry.

I must say, the television furnished in the room is large. Super perfect for a Netflix session! I get so turned off when the television a hotel provides is not just small, but super far from the bed! My eyesight isn’t that good, so I gotta squint when I watch the screen. And if I squint too much, I’d prolly fall asleep. But not here!

By the bed, we have switches for the lights, a telephone and a button to control the window blinds which I find pretty cool! I don’t know, technology like that really excites me regardless if it’s really advanced or not.

A working desk is also available for you to use.

Equipped with a lamp to enhance the lighting when you work and multiple sockets for you to use to charge your electronics, everything is prepared for your convenience.

The working desk is placed exactly by the window that offers a stunning view of the yachts and the bright blue sky. I am really obsessed with the view! It was such a joy to wake up to that every morning.

Other amenities included in the room are the comfy bathrobes which I wear to sleep every night.

A safebox is available as well! I think I need to start using them too. I take my safety too much for granted sometimes! But then again, I tend to forgot my passwords. Oh well!

Let’s move on to the bathroom, or should I say, the most important room.. in the room..? Forget I said that.

So! The bathroom!

It strangely reminds me of the bathroom they have in hospitals. I’m not sure if the lighting is too bright? Or the tiles and walls are too boring?

It’s prolly the color and the furnishing. It looks like an un-renovated, generic bathroom of a BTO flat too somehow.

But you know what I love? The toilet has a full-bidet system! The one that will wash your bumbum clean with just a press of the button and a little dance with your hips! Shakira, do your thang.

The water heater works great, water pressure was strong and consistent. Just perfect.

Overall, I immensely loved my stay here in JEN Puteri Harbour. People don’t like it quiet? But I do! It’s so peaceful and relaxing to be here. The staff were amazing, the service was top notch.

On one of the days, I found a used, dirty bra in my wardrobe. It was disgusting and wet so I quickly called up the reception. They immediately sent someone to dispose the bra and the manager on duty provided us with a complimentary breakfast. It’s the littlest things that makes your stay more memorable right?

I actually didn’t wanna share this story but now I want to, as it shows how competent and quick-thinking the staff here was.

I recommended this hotel to my dad and he got pretty excited! The whole time I was here, I was sending videos of the hotel to the family group chat and he really loved it. Plus, my dad is a very hard man to please and impress.

So if he likes it, I definitely know you will!
